Making sure your child is safe
Here at Tickford Park Primary School we take safeguarding very seriously. All staff are trained in how to keep children safe and to watch for signs of concern; they know that concerns should be passed on as soon as possible to the DSL, or one of the DDSLs in her absence.
Julie Stevens, our Headteacher, is the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) at Tickford Park, and Taryn Chapman, Ian Cowper, Rachel Morley and Samara King are all Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSLs). If we have concerns that a child is either experiencing harm or in danger of experiencing it, we take action, including informing the Milton Keynes Multi-agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) who will make a professional assessment of the concerns and take appropriate action.
We only employ adults who have been fully cleared and checked as safe to be unsupervised with children.
An important part of safeguarding is keeping good communication with parents - if you feel you need some help with your child at home and things are not going as well as you would like please come and talk to us. We can often help, either directly or through signposting to local Early Help services.

The Government’s Prevent Strategy is one of our safeguarding and child protection duties. From 1 July 2015 all schools are subject to a duty under section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, in the exercise of their functions, to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”. This duty is known as the Prevent Duty for Schools.
At Tickford Park, we recognise that safeguarding and creating a safeguarding culture is the responsibility of everyone who works here. As a school, we recognise that safeguarding against radicalisation is no different from safeguarding against any other vulnerability. At Tickford Park, we build pupils’ resilience to radicalisation through our wider curriculum, promoting fundamental British Values and enabling our pupils to challenge extremist views.
The statutory guidance refers to the importance of Prevent awareness training for school staff, to give them the skills to recognise when children are at risk of being drawn into terrorism and help to challenge extremist ideas.
All staff at Tickford Park undertake Prevent training, as part of the wider safeguarding training provided.
